Time for an update, I'd say. It's been kind of crazy around here to say the least.
Last week I attended another birth, my 3rd. It was a grueling long time with severe back labor. I was hard-working the whole time applying counter pressure until the girl went in for a c-section, major bummer. When you are in the midst of this, you don't really think about yourself, you just do everything in your power to provide relief. Anyway, I didn't eat or drink for 16 hours, didn't sleep for over 36.
Which apparently was too much for my pregnant body. The next day I was peeing blood. Lots of it. I was able to go into the local clinic, they figured a uti and prescribed some antibiotics. They were more concerned about my sky-high blood pressure (due I believe to lack of sleep because it was fine the next day). I went to pick up the prescription and lo and behold, they don't have it. And of course it's past 5 and the clinic is closed for weekend with no way of getting a hold of anybody.
So by early Saturday morning, I was doubled over in pain, crying and still peeing blood. Unbeknownst to me, Tyler texted my parents at 4am and asked them to come over. Because, on top of all this, Tyler was on death's door with a stomach bug. He could hardly move. Great timing, right?
So my mom was here by 7am I was in the ER by 8am and admitted to the hospital by 1pm. I was really surprised I was admitted, but apparently the fact that I was pregnant had them worried. They kept telling me I had a 50% chance of miscarriage. They were just keeping me overnight. Anyway, by the time I got some strong antibiotics in my system, I was feeling tons better. Baby looked fine, I was feeling fine, mostly irritated by the IV and constant blood tests, lousy food and uncomfortable bed.
Monday comes around and I'm STILL there. Luckily a really great doctor said I finally get to come home and let me go. And that was it. I'm fine. Still fine, baby is fine. It was just a kidney infection and once I was on meds, I was fine. It was all rather ridiculous.
I was supposed to do the organ and a special musical number on Sunday in addition to my normal calling of Primary music leader. I want to thank everyone that filled in at the last minute and took care of all that. Also, all the meals and calls and texts and prayers. And especially a big thank you to my mom for dropping everything and coming over here, looking after the kids and me. Could not have survived without her.
Anyway, Tyler has said, no more doula-ing which is a real bummer to me. I have 2 more girls lined up and I don't want to tell them I can't do it anymore. I was just intending to get certified, then take a break until it's more do-able in my life. I've got 3 births down, but I can only have 1 c-section, so I still technically need another. We shall see. I don't want to land in the hospital again, or injure growing baby, but I feel like I learned my lesson.
So that was my fun weekend. Tyler luckily started feeling better by Tuesday and we were all in good health to celebrate Will's birthday! More to come on that. I promise!
