A Resolution

I have a few resolutions this year.  I always make goals or intentions, but this year I actually resolve to do something.  And that is to learn to knit.  First a story:

In 2000, the first ever Martha Stewart Baby magazine made its appearance.  I was instantly in love with it.  Pretty pictures, serene nurseries, cute crafts.  What else could motherhood entail?   I had been married 2 years, and figured this new world of projects was open to me.  No kids yet, but hey, this is cute (and essential I might add) stuff.  Well, in this magazine was an article on how to knit, and how to actually make a sweater, blanket, and hat with only rectangles.  So, I taught myself how to cast on, knit, and bind off.  (I did not use Martha's directions however.  Like most of her projects--cute ideas, bad instructions)  I used a cheesy knitting book with great directions.  I actually made the baby hat and even the sweater (out of super bulky cheap scratchy yarn--not cute.  Or very wearable).  And that was that--I did it.  I slowly expanded my skills to include washcloths and even a bag (made of yet again the rectangle--and not finished--10 years later) but that's where it ends.  And every winter when it's cold outside (not today exactly, it was 71 degrees) I wish I knew how to really knit.  Cozy warm comforting knitting.

So  hear ye, hear ye:  This year of 2013 I resolve to knit real things.  Like hats, and socks and adorable stuff like this:

which comes from this book which I bought in an overly ambitious moment years ago.  I vow to make something from it!
I'll keep you updated on my progress.

Oh, and then please teach me! I can make scarves, hats, and I made a blanket. I'm the same way, squares OR, I can do a hat on a round thing, whatever those are called. ;)

OK, we shall hold you to it! ; ) It beats the computer when it comes to passing time but I think the TV must be on in some fashion or at least music. Or watching kids in the backyard or park? Well, you let us know and I think my head size is small to average.
